SENSE OF DECEMBER BY CBP DESIGN
My feeling this month is made up of warm evenings with my family, feelings that motivate me and make me feel satisfied with what I have achieved this year.
What is the first component you think about when you start working on a new project?
It varies depending on the building, the brief and the client's wishes, but first of all I try to get a "feel" for the space.
How does architecture and design contribute to change in the environment and society?
Our world is in a constant process of evolution, the interaction between man and nature contributes to the development of adaptation in architecture and design. One of our main aspirations is to live in aesthetics and comfort, and this is what modern design is based on.
What are the other areas from which you draw inspiration?
Personally, I can be inspired by anything and suddenly enough. Since I was a kid, I have a lot of ideas swirling around in my head, where and how they come from - I still can't say for sure. I think any creative person can be inspired by their surroundings.
Without what is an interior incomplete?
I don't think an interior is complete without details, without nuances and semitones. I like complex interiors with many levels - when you want to explore every detail.
Which area or product would you be interested in if you had the opportunity to design products? Why?
It's hard to think of a field other than design. We already design and create different furniture for our own projects - chairs, sofas, tables, beds - sometimes even light fittings.
What has been the most valuable piece of advice someone has given you?
Trivially - to dare!
The role of ecology and sustainability in architecture and design from your perspective.
As we think about the future of our planet, our challenge is to reduce our footprint on Earth. We are moving in the right direction and we have made great progress in the last decade in sustainable architecture and design, this is the future!
What was the first thing that sparked your interest in architecture?
It's hard to remember what it was like originally, at every stage of my life I was influenced and interested by different design and architectural objects, it formed my basic taste. I can be fascinated by many things, I can easily admire a kerb stone or a lamppost in my neighbour's yard.
What will be the next big trend in (interior) design?
Despite the fact that rattan furniture, bamboo decor, boucle fabric, round shapes and pastel colours remain a trend in the general public, global design trends are approaching the interior interpretations of the 1980s (before the digital age). I think "oversized" objects will be in vogue and retrofuturism and haitek will prevail.
What was the first thing that sparked your interest in design?
As a child it was drawing, then I became very passionate about graffiti and photography, in the mid-90s I took photos with film cameras and graffiti works with "Latvbithim" paints. This was followed by designing and constructing sets for nightclubs and theatres, which led me into design.
What are today's most cutting-edge design objects?
This could be debated for a long time... From a technological point of view, it could be one thing, and from an artistic point of view it could be quite another. At the moment, I'm focusing more on "legendary" objects from the past, like vintage furniture by Brazilian artists - they often still look very cutting-edge.
The interaction of interior design with other fields.
The huge, integral interaction with fashion, art, cinema, theatre, gastronomy... The list is endless.
Do you take environmental and social sustainability into account in the objects you create?
We are trying to work on it more and more.
The main task of architecture?
To find the best solution that meets constructive, ideological, artistic and economic requirements.
What is a successful project?
For a project to be successful, many factors and circumstances have to come together. It is very important to foster close, equal communication, which guarantees an excellent result.
The most loved stage of a project?
The final stage, the "handover" of the project to the client. There are many enjoyable moments at this stage, first of all the work done to completion, the emotions of the client and of course the hour of payment, haha (joke).
Which project has been the most challenging? Why?
For the moment, definitely the A22 Hotel. When I started designing, I had no experience in this area. The opportunity to grow, to face many obstacles, to react to crisis situations, to "survive" a pandemic, but in the end to create, to express, to improve and to smile every time I drive by Viesturdarz.
What is sustainable architecture and how to promote it?
Not to be a victim of trends, to see the potential of an object, to use quality materials, textures and to create spaces for PEOPLE.
