SENSE OF NOVEMBER BY ANNA BATES
ANNA BATES
Designer in charge / Place maker / Founder
November. The month when ideas are discovered, merged, perhaps deliberately and unintentionally interrupted, deformed for a new beginning. It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation.
What is your favourite stage of a project?
Excitement! The moment I work on a project, it is my priority. Without passion you can't be creative - if you don't have passion, you don't interact - not with the project, not with the people working with you, not with the client. It is impossible to create something impersonal for the other person, without a direct connection and connection. In business, you need a mutual interest for the process to be productive. I am convinced that we attract people like ourselves. The moment I am involved in a project, I am 100 per cent inside it, and in that moment it becomes the most important thing. It is a story about the here and now. Everything that has already been realised remains as a story, an emotion, an experience. The projects that are happening now are definitely the most relevant.
What are the other areas from which you draw inspiration?
A good question that I myself once recently asked 111 architects when I was working on my recently published book INCEPTION 111. The book is about how we inspire each other, about authorship and collective creation. I draw inspiration from my everyday life. I build my whole world around people, places and things that I find inspiring.
I am inspired by Sunday mornings without rush, movies without end, my family, my home and the city I live in.
What excites you at the moment, makes your eyes light up and how does it enrich your work?
"Be the change" - For me, the way I live, or the way I am interested in being, is a constant transformation, evolution and change. It is important to adapt and not to stand still, I like to be on the move. Both directly and indirectly. The most important thing for me in my work is to feel the growth with each new project. The moment you step out of your comfort zone - that moment you feel that you are just now starting to understand life, which you might not have understood before.
