SENSE OF MARCH BY MADARA LUKSTIŅA
My feeling this month is one of retreat from the quiet and the familiar. I feel inspired and energised to go towards the new and unconventional. Colours, shapes, solutions that make you look back. Environments that evoke new feelings and inspire.
What is the first component you think about when you start working on a new project?
Human interaction and communication is the most important aspect for me when starting a new project. Whether the two parties complement and complement each other is what determines how successful and enjoyable the design process and outcome will be. I appreciate it when I collaborate with clients whose energy and vision can meet mine. As a result, it allows ideas to develop freely and uninhibited, which makes the project itself incomparably more successful. At the heart of all projects is people.
Do you take environmental sustainability into account in the objects you create?
I've always been into 'second hand' and 'vintage'. I see it as a good choice for several reasons: to create eclectic and interesting designs that incorporate objects with a story and a soul, but above all it is an opportunity to give a second life to artworks and furniture that allow the individuality, history, memories and personality of the owners to shine through. My preference is for natural and sustainable materials and designs that serve both people today and generations to come. I think it's important to exploit the potential of a historic design object.
The most loved stage of the project?
When the ideas that have developed in imagination and drawings are realised and finally seen, touched and felt. The end result reflects the client's story and needs, and all parties are happy with it. It is a great satisfaction that inspires.
What excites you now, what makes your eyes light up and how does it enrich your work?
This month I really feel summer approaching and I'm excited by the feeling of new beginnings. The feeling that everything is waking up. The birds singing, the people bustling and the sunshine in the room. The work of Vanessa Barragão, Chris Soal and James Turrell describes my mood right now. With new beginnings, I find new inspirations - interiors, architecture, fashion, nature, music, etc. Expanding my horizons makes me feel motivated and I fall in love with what I do all over again. It also develops my abilities and creative vision, and gives me a basis for new ideas.
