SENSE OF FEBRUARY BY KRISTĪNA REINBERGA
My feeling this month is shaped by what is happening around me. Movement. A buzz. Like a little child, I try to see, to breathe in what is happening around me - exhibitions, films, travels, random people, books, conversations, music... Also the soulful beauty of people. Diversity. Unpleasant situations are replaced by beautiful, heartfelt events, interactions. The world is flowing and changing, and I want to be part of this movement, to let go, to observe. To change.
What is an interior incomplete without?
Without the person for whom the interior is being created. I often wonder what interior design is. Maybe it's mostly about the feeling we get when we enter a room? It's different for everyone, based on personal experience, the environment you grew up in, lived in, values. However, an interior is never complete without a story - a story that is started by the designer together with the client and other stakeholders and continued and developed by the user of the space. And it doesn't matter whether it is a private or a public space.
Tell us about the building where you grew up, where you spent your childhood. Was it your initial inspiration for choosing your profession?
Until the age of eleven, we lived in a two-storey wooden house, where my sister and I often used a window instead of a door, so that we could get out into the yard more quickly. We made our quarters under the ground, in trees, in skunks, on the roof, in a freshly brought firewood pile, in overgrown lilac bushes. We had no limits. Anything we could imagine, we had the possibility to make it happen. Nothing has changed today.
The most loved stage of the project?
Building the story by getting to know the client. The interaction between the function of the space, the client, the dreams, the environment in which the space is located, the geographical location, the historical heritage, the ecological footprint, the visions of the future. At the beginning, it's almost never possible to guess where the story will take us, and that's always such a thrill.
How does architecture and design contribute to change in the environment and society?
Interior design and architecture serve people. It is a bridge between nature and man. A tool that makes our daily lives more functionally understandable and easier or, on the contrary, more complex. Which way change is promoted is the responsibility of each professional.
