SENSE OF AUGUST BY ŽANETE ZAKOVICA-OZOLIŅA
My feeling for this month is one of stopping. Stopping after intense projects and events. With the arrival of August, my summer seems to end, to feel over, as I unconsciously tune in to autumn, which I associate with routine and maturity, but certainly not with boredom. Somehow a beginning and an end at the same time.
What is the first component you think about when you start working on a new object?
People. Everything is based on the person for whom the object is created. What are the interests, needs, desires, lifestyle, rhythm, etc. of that person?
What are the other areas from which you draw inspiration?
Anyarea, place or thing can inspire, or vice versa. For me, travelling, exploring new horizons is a great inspiration. Travelling awakens a completely different energy in me.
What has been the most valuable piece of advice someone has given you?
"Just because it didn't turn out the way I planned, doesn't mean it didn't work out. Others don't know how it was supposed to go."
Tell us about the building/place where you grew up, spent your childhood. Was it your initial inspiration for choosing your profession?
Mychildhood was spent in Liepāja, in a wooden house on Vecliepājas Kungu Street. My childhood yard was the yard of "Peter I House", which was right next to our house. There I spent the carefree days of my childhood, with my staff in the 100-year-old willow tree, watching amber being worked in the workshops next door. Today, the "Peter I House" houses the 17th-19th century Liepāja Amber Museum. interior museum. Guest house of Mrs Hoyer. Architectural monument of national importance. I believe that all our experiences, our environment, the people around us shape us into the people we are today. That is why my childhood memories and experiences have certainly left their mark on my future choices.
What is a successful project?
In my opinion, a successful project is based on trust between the client and the designer. Mutual harmony. Then it's about meeting deadlines, realising what you want, not blindly following the latest trends, but creating a sustainable design based on natural materials. And finally, to create an environment in which the client feels good and comfortable.
